EPL GAMEWEEK 13 PREDICTIONS

WINNER’S TAKES ALL

Stoke takes on Blackburn on what should be an interesting fixture. The Potters are a side struggling to hit winning ways while Blackburn is caught up in the doldrums of the bottom three. You therefore need not Einstein’s IQ to tell three points are a lifeline for either side. Walters has picked up form where Etherington left and seems to be the only Potters’ man that can save blushes that is currently being experienced by Pulis’ men. Not that Blackburn is any better and not that the Britannia should prove to be Keegans golden chalice for a much needed win. Yakubu is showing glimpses of his former self, so draw him among the goals. All that said, stoke should take the bride and pride home with a 2-1 result.

David Moyes seems to be hitting stride with the league’s tide and the Goodison ship should be on full sail. When Coyle’s men play host to Everton at the Reebok Stadium, an upset is unlikely. Bolton has become a seasonal performer, blowing cold after red hot performances, with goals in plenty. I reckon their seasonal form to persist and thus Everton should take the spoils. A win with Cahill or Drenthe Orchestrating the show in a 2-1 win on the cards. Meanwhile, Eagles and Klasnic should otherwise prove me wrong.

RIGHT THE WRONGS

Stamford Bridge is at a lull, a sombre, depressing lull. Genuine football fans should have deep concerns over the happenings at the Russian oligarch backyard. AVB’s ship is rocking turbulently in what i would term as an uncharacteristic turn of fortune for JT’s blue army. But then again, genuine football fans will be unwise to write off Chelsea but rather acknowledge their ability to steer clear of this charade, remember Arsenal?, Yeah, the 8-2 Arsenal, well look at them now. Nevertheless, with a rookie gaffer, this is no Kindergarten job and maybe AVB sort of underestimated the Premier league. Looking at AVB’s former club Porto, they have currently maintained the unbeaten run under Pereira who was AVB’s assistant, it then begs the question of who really was behind Porto’s success last season. This is in light of the fact that Chelsea was double winners just two seasons ago with the same players that are playing now. I mean good players don’t turn into bad players overnight. During their champions league duty, a last minute loss to Bayer Leverkusen compounded the home loss to Liverpool. Sturridge seemed to be the only player worth wearing a Chelsea shirt during that game, and with the too many defensive errors lately, one would be left thinking that JT and Cech are conspiring to lose games. You would be left wondering why AVB does not give a run to the promising Romelu, Romeu and the in-form Anelka. Not forgetting McEachran who seems to be on the brink of realising his potential but instead the deadwoods (Malouda, Drogba, Mikel and Bosingwa) that should be done away with, keep on playing week in week out. I am just wondering what Bertrand was thinking when he heard that Cole was out with an injury, and instead of the manager playing him, he plays Bosingwa instead, i mean, if Bosingwa on a good day is not good enough to play on his preferred position RB, then how will he the LB position. Bosingwa has become a shadow of his former self. Nevertheless, Mick McCarthy’s side look to be the right team to right their wrongs and i bet the blues will nick the three points. But it won’t be that easy, i mean, any premier league manager will be smart enough to pick up the weakness of Chelsea. If only long ball are passed to the likes of Fletcher and Doyle, then bang! Terry is in deep trouble because he will be outpaced for one and you know how Chelsea is once the defence is outplayed. My prediction though is that Chelsea will carry the day with a 2-0 victory.

Manchester United vs. Newcastle United game will be played at Old Trafford, a difficult place for any team to go and manage to come out with any points, well, except for Money City. Though Newcastle played well and created good chances in their game against Manchester City, Manchester United is a different game altogether, even with Manchester United’s questionable form. The return of Rooney will prove vital. Sir Alex Ferguson seemingly walked out of a press conference, attributing that to their indifferent form in the CL could be anyone’s guess, not that it was made any easier by being pegged back by a not so illustrious opponents. That aside i have had too much experience with United’s steel and resolve to assume that Newcastle will give them a run for the three points. Allan Pardew would like to build another string of unbeaten performance but i doubt Old Trafford is the place to do it. Final score in favour of united should be 2-0.

Norwich and QPR are sides that despite their low profile turn up with admirable performances. Both sides are good with the ball and goals should occasion this 90 minutes encounter. Helguson is proving a fox in the box and i fancy him among the goals. Joey Barton to inspire a great fight for QPR chances of winning. A 2-2 draw should suffice.

Sunderland even without Mignolet is putting up a good defensive performance and entertaining Wigan should be a piece of cake. Remember this is a Wigan side that has a negative goal difference and even Nicklas Bendtner will be looking to have a go at them. However this is the premier league and an Upset is not far fetched from the reality. The DW stars are faltering, with Rodallega a not worthy mention. Unless they get their act together, the Black Cats will have an easy time chasing the DW stars. Another home win for the Black Cats and the score to be 2-0.

The Swans lock horns with Aston Villa, who until recently looked to have struck a pot of gold earlier in the season. Agbonlahor and bent had been threatening defences earlier on and this dynamic duo should get back to their tormenting ways. Swansea has an equal dynamic duo of their own in Sinclair and Dyer, two speedy wingers. Swansea will definitely have plenty of the ball with their beautiful game but can they take their chances?. This should be an entertaining match and the game could go either way. Prediction is a 2-1 win for the hosts who almost held the champions last week apart from the one defensive error that they made.

BATMAN AND ROBIN

‘Who needs Batman when we have Robin’ so goes the song that all the Arsenal fans are singing and rightly so. The Dutchman has been phenomenal this calendar year, and i for one would not debate any further on the issue. So when the Craven Cottagers visit the emirates, all eyes will be on the Arsenal talisman. He should be in the thick of things and in a 3-0 win. Fulham have found it difficult to find the back of the net, so this won’t be an easy one, not after another confidence boosting win by arsenal over a revamped Borrusia Dortmund. Gervinho’s work and running has been great for the Arsenal course but he needs to start offering the end product in terms of goals.

BIG TIMERS

West Bromwich naturally wouldn’t deny Redknapp’s side a customary win, such has been the form of the North Londoners that even with an ailing manager, they don’t seem to be fazed. Roy’s men can hold their own as well, especially at their own turf, but containing the explosive Bale and Adebayor combination will be a daunting task, add to that the return and full fitness of sensational Rafael Van der Vaat. Even with the not so good record that Tottenham have at the Hawthorns, the youth and verve that they have on their side is unstoppable, just look at them dining at the high table with the big boys in the top four position at the moment. One might just wonder if Luca Modric was saved from going to a Chelsea side that is struggling. Tottenham are most likely to win this one with a score line of 3-1.

City seems to have the going by the scruff of its neck, and the Noisy Manchester side are currently rolling in the deep. However, Liverpool will look to throw a spanner in the works and especially after proving last week on their win against Chelsea that they can actually show up and be counted in the big games. Though city’s loss to Napoli will highlight their weakness and Kenny Dalgish being the crafty gaffer will be looking to exploit it, City on the other side will be looking to prove a point. The Kop should give Liverpool the support of the 12th man and thus, city will have to work their socks off if a result is to be positive. David Silva and Kompany will need stellar performance to assure the Italian a win. Nevertheless, English tradition backs the home side for even the most unthinkable of wins.

Our Beloved Stars

Posted: November 19, 2011 in Uncategorized

Our beloved Stars did a pretty good job of dusting Seychelles. Our very own Francis Kimanzi is back with aplomb, I mean, what is it with this man and his penchant for success? Being the most decorated tactician in the country, and a Kenyan as well, it is little doubt that the former Sofapaka boss is the right mix for our football puzzle. A toast to the man, and Kenya football (Forget Nyamweya and his cronies)

In other news, the KPL is bidding us adieu. Gor Mahia would be relieved to see the back of Congo United (Thanks to a 4 – 0 thrashing by AFC) at least for the coming season as they battle for promotion.

EPL

A CULTURED LEFT FOOT

RVP was at it again last weekend, inspiring Arsene’s Arsenal to a comfy 3-0 win over WestBrom. Arsenal fans will be glad that the flying Dutchman returned to London Colney unscathed from International duty. That said, the in-form captain will be looking to command his side over Norwich, with his cultured left foot. Mind you, he has ‘chocolate’ right foot as well, that is equally potent. Norwich is a side that plays decent football but arsenal should take the spoils when all is said and done. Another clean sheet isn’t far fetched with the no nonsense Belgian Verminator at the heart of defence. Walcott, Gervinho and the captain himself should get the job done, and not to forget Aaron Ramsey. I will go with a 3-0 in favour of Arsenal.

Everton will be relishing the duel with Mick McCarthy’s side as a chance to get 3 pts on board. The game will be played at Goodison Park and one of the men to watch out for is Royston Drenthe, along with Fellaini who has just penned down a contract extension and seems to have settled. Jack Rodwell is also expected to be full of confidence bearing in mind the recent debut he made for the 3 Lions. The Merseyside sure look poised to get away with a win and three points to get them into the winning ways. 2-1 final score with the home side winning though McCarthy will be hoping Matt Jarvis gets back his groove sooner rather than later to swing the win in their favour.

After this weekend, there will be only one team undefeated this season, well… not unless a draw is on the cards. From the look of things, you would fancy a Manchester City side to be that team when they play host to Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium. Mancini’s City should be the party stoppers for the Magpies dream season, though with the guests’ recent exploits, it promises to be a very entertaining encounter. Allan Pardew will be shifting uneasily in his boots, because after City, they face the defending champions and then Chelsea. They would be hoping that by then they would still be having luck on their side. This fixture is not an easy one, I must say, with Dzeko, Aguero and Silva to be at it again, doing what they do best, breaking down the walls (defence) and if available add Adam Johnson to the mix. Yohan Cabaye should be expected to tease the City defence alongside Ba and Gutierrez. My prediction is a 3-1 win for the host.

PLAYING CATCH UP

QPR will be smiling at lady luck for the opportunity of facing Stoke at a time when their form is on the downhill. The 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Bolton before the international break is sure to give Tony Pulis a lot to think about, not knowing when the rain started beating them.  He will be meaning to change a few things and hope for the best. I predict a draw in this encounter.

Sunderland and Fulham will want to play catch up as they both experience sad defeats last time out even after they put up spirited displays. One would expect Martin Jol’s side to get the better of Sunderland, a team managed by former united player, Bruce. Playing at the Stadium of light is to a large extent an advantage to the home side to get a win. However, if Jol is to start Bryan Ruiz, an intelligent payer, then damage is bound to be caused to the Black Cats’ defence considering Wes Brown’s schoolboy defending. Fulham to end up victorious with a 2-1 win.

After a 5-star, 5 goals display, Owen Coyle’s side should be brimming with confidence. With Arsenal having done damage to West Bromwich, the odds might play out to a Bolton win, Klasnic and Eagles to find the back of the net. Peter Odemwingie to also shine if played. West Bromwich 1, Bolton 2

Blackburn and Wigan shouldn’t ignite tremendous imagination as to who the better side will be. Even so, Samba’s Blackburn held their own against John Terry’s Blue army, but with the fans grumbling over Keegan’s head, Roberto Martinez side will be hoping that is distraction enough to stage a fair fight. A one all draw is likely.

Swansea has also impressed thus far but the daunting picture of hosting the illustrious champions might be overwhelming. Sir Alex’s side will be hoping to reduce the gap their noisy neighbours have created.  The return of Vidic signals a chance of another clean sheet but the likes of Sinclair and Dyer will be having other ideas, of giving United’s defence a nightmare though i doubt that will happen. A win for United is almost guaranteed, though i have to admit that Vorm has been having an impressive time.  A 1-0 win will be comfortable for United.

TORRES AND THE ANFIELD FAITHFULS

Chelsea vs. Liverpool, this one is full of pedigree. Former Anfield hit man and darling, Torres will face his previous employers at his new home, Stamford Bridge. Whereas the Chelsea fans will be full of praise, expect taunts, jeers and even racial slurs at Chelsea’s No. 9 from the visiting fans, more so if he scores. The Anfield faithful will be happy to note that their once ‘golden boy’ has not scaled his usual heights yet. Luis Suarez is sure to be handful even with the FA charge over him, and AVB is expected to do a moonwalk should his side score. JT will hope to have exorcised his ‘racial demons’ since being a big name player, he is expected to show up in the big games and do what he does best, defend and be a leader to his teammates. Another defeat at the Bridge is unthinkable but with the blues shaky defence, goals are sure going to rain. All eyes will be on the in-form Lampard and the crafty Juan Manuel Garcia Mata. Score line should be 2-1 at the end of the game with Chelsea getting their revenge.

Finally Tottenham and Aston Villa game will be an entertaining one with Villa having failed to beat Tottenham in their previous 5 encounters. Aston Villa will be hoping to inflict revenge following the double that Redknapp’s side did to them last season under strange circumstances. It is going to be a tight affair and the people to watch out for include Bale for Tottenham and Agbonlahor who is in great shape only if he is cleared to play following the doubts that surround his inclusion to the action after sustaining a hamstring. My prediction is that Tottenham will carry the day with a resounding 2-0 win.

EPL Gameweek 11 Predictions

Posted: November 5, 2011 in Uncategorized

Premier League Proper

It is about that time when the pedigrees of the EPL team squads kick in. With European nights coming in thick and fast, and with the rotation of squads, one would expect this to take a toll on the league performance, bearing in mind the Curling cup and FA cups. You would reckon, with ten games in, that we are ready for the competition proper, although united fans would talk of January and second leg.

Van- the-man

Captain Vantastic (RVP) maintained his electric form of the year by netting a slick hat trick that condemned the blues to their heaviest home defeat since 1989. The London Colney based side will surely be simmering with confidence and you wouldn’t rule out a routine win at the Emirates when they host Roy’s men. With the Verminator back, a clean sheet and goals from RVP and probably Walcott is most likely. Newcastle match on, from stride to stride and after another win at the Britannia with a hat trick from Demba Ba, hosting a stuttering Everton wouldn’t be a daunting task. Nevertheless, being in the competition, proper stage might affect the magpies and a one – all draw marginally on the books seems probable. Considering their standing at the league table though, a win for them isn’t far fetched after all.

Luis Suarez is sure to lead the Merseyside club to an easy home win against the Swans. The Uruguayan was instrumental during the demolition of West Bromwich, and though Swansea plays decent football, Anfield isn’t the sort of place for an easy win. A 2-0 win or a 3-1 win is a more likely result. The champions on the other hand are a good bet for a clean sheet and 3 points against Sunderland at Old Trafford. Three clean sheets after their derby drubbing should be convincing enough. Chicharito, Rooney and probably Young to shine and put united on the driving seat. A 3-0 win and three points in the bag for the defending Champions.

Chelsea should be doing some earnest soul searching after a not so impressive string of performances. Their once solid and best defence in the premier league is no more, this will be a factor that Blackburn will seek to exploit to their advantage. Speaking of Blackburn, the only bright spot in their season was their win over Newcastle in the curling cup; otherwise they are a team that is struggling to keep up with the rest of the pack in the premier league. The blues will surely want to get back into winning ways if they are to keep up with the Manchesters and what an opportune time than an away game at the Reebok stadium to a struggling Blackburn. F-50 and Daniel Strurridge will be looking to be in the score sheet to provide redemption to AVB who is under pressure from the blues fans. Expect fireworks from Mata and Lampard, with the final score being 3-1 in favour of the blues.

I expect Aston Villa vs. Norwich to provide less excitement and fancy a draw with Daren Bent and Gabby Agbonlahor being in the thick of things. The odds though strongly favour a draw since Norwich has proved to play well when it comes to the strong opponents. I bet the teams will have to share the spoils and 1-1 draw will be okay for both teams. Wolves and Mick McCarthy will be happy to have finished business with the in-form Manchester City and will be hoping to get something from their game with the Latics who are yet to find a decent run of form so anything goes in this duel. Expect a goal fest with Taylor Fletcher, Doyle, Jarvis, Victor Moses and Rodallega pulling the strings for both teams. I expect Wolves to win, final score to be 2-1.

Stoke will easily tell that Europa league isn’t affecting their usual strong performance but only a deaf man would listen to that excuse. Not that Bolton are flying high at the moment, but just that they would be happy to face the Potters who are often a stubborn challenger but not showing the strength at the moment. Owen Coyle’s side would fancy getting the better of Tony Pulis Potters. Prediction is a 1-0 win in favour of Bolton.

Crème de la crème

Mancini will be pleased that his team is finding the right balance in the Champions League and the domestic league. ‘Money city’ as some call them have come a long way, from being branded title pretenders to being the real deal, Title contenders. With their recent form, even the mightiest team in the premier league would shudder having to face them. With a convincing home win in the CL, after previous failed attempt, the blue half of Manchester is sure to put QPR to the sword. An away win is almost definite, but football being football…you just might never know. Nevertheless, Mancini’s side is favourites with a 4-0 win, the usual suspects to be on the limelight again (David Silva and co.). Spurs will be looking to get over their defeat in the hands of Rubin Kazan (who by the way are a formidable side, remember what they did to Barca) as they prepare to face Martin jol’s side, who will surely give them a go at it. Rafael van der vaat has been impressive so far and with Bale finding his feet again, Dempsey and Murphy in great form expect a scintillating encounter. A 2-2 is mine prediction or a 2-1 win in favour of Tottenham as of @skwalizzy prediction.
